This month marked Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and to contribute to the cause, Startup Croydon organised a mini bake-off with the dual purpose of raising both funds and awareness for breast cancer. The event brought together the small businesses within the building, all united by a shared goal, and it was wonderful to see so many people get involved.
Among the standout contributions were two remarkable cakes submitted by Youth PWR. Serekia Mullings, Youth PWR’s Programmes Assistant delighted everyone with a mouth-watering Jamaican rum cake, rich in flavour and bursting with the warmth of traditional Caribbean spices. Alongside this, Mia and Rochelle presented a beautifully decorated Victoria sponge cake, which was as visually stunning as it was delicious. The care and effort put into these bakes were evident,
In addition to the treats, participants embraced the spirit of the event by dressing in pink, a colour associated with breast cancer awareness. This simple yet powerful gesture added a splash of colour to the day and served as a visual reminder of the importance of the cause. It was a heartening sight to see everyone coming together, enjoying the cakes while supporting such an important initiative.
The event was more than just a bake-off; it was a celebration of community, kindness, and shared effort for a vital cause. It proved to be a great success, raising much-needed funds and awareness for breast cancer research and support, all while encouraging a sense of camaraderie among those who took part.
Overall, it was a day filled with sweet treats, good spirits, and a collective determination to make a difference, showing that even small gestures can have a big impact when people come together for a common cause.
